What is the Blues Scale?

The Blues scale is a hexatonic scale or a scale with six pitches per octave. The Blues scale is similar to a pentatonic scale (5 pitches per octave) however it has an added sharped 2nd. The formula for the blues scale is 1 – 2 – 2# – 3 – 5 – 6 (C – D – D# – E – G – A).
